Condolences

Condolence From: Dave Faught
Condolence: Deepest condolances from myself and my wife, Susan. Mark had been a continuous presence in my life for almost 30 years, and I give thanks for every moment. He was a very special man who gave 100% in everything he did, something we can all learn from - I feel that he lived three lifetimes in the short time he was with us because of this. In end, he left us with a bar set incredibly high, and experiences of a lifetime.Thank you for everything Mark.

Condolence: My deepest sympathies to the entire family on the passing of one of the nicest guys anyone could ever hope to meet in life. Mark was Mark and that meant awesome. He will be missed by the SGDHS gang, and although I am saddened beyond words, he will always remain one of my best friends. Rest in peace Markus.

Condolence From: Janis Lockwood
Condolence: Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. I first met Mark more than 30 years ago at CKCU-FM and last saw him only a few weeks back when he dropped in to the station. His contribution to CKCU, Algonquin College, Carleton's School of Journalism, and the Ottawa music scene was enormous, and he made many, many friends. He was a good soul and he will be deeply missed.

Condolence: It was such a shock to lose Mark. He was such a challenging but encouraging teacher at Algonquin College advanced production class. He made a huge difference in my life. It was also wonderful to see him at CKCU events. The last time I saw him was during the recent CKCU funding drive, where those present enjoyed his company and stories. Thank you Mark, for your teaching and your friendship. I will never forget you. Thank you Mark's family for sharing him with us and with Ottawa radio folks. My deepest condolences go with you.

Condolence: I was deeply saddened to learn of Mark Valcour’s sudden passing. Mark was one the first people I met when I joined the staff of the School of Journalism, and I’ll never forget his friendly welcome and his promise that I would get to know him. Happily, I did, and our frequent encounters—almost always involving a humorous quip from Mark—never failed to brighten my day and keep me smiling. His love of life and his total engagement with the work at hand were infectious. His energy was amazing. He embodied a unique blend of commitment to his craft, impeccable work ethic, deep generosity, endless patience, and above all, an irrepressible and quirky sense of humour. He was a truly good soul. He will be missed. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

Condolence From: Steve Winogron
Condolence: Mark was truly one of the best in radio and sound production, and a great "co-teacher" for the radio course I have taught at Carleton for a number of years. He was highly respected by the teaching staff and the students. He taught many of the young students who went on to work for me over the years in the CFRA Newsroom, too. Positive, always a funny line or two to throw our way. And an audio perfectionist. Mark will be sadly missed by many. You were inspiring, and a skilled gentleman. So long, Mark. And thank you.

Condolence: This news comes as a tremendous shock. Only a few weeks ago he was his usual vibrant self in my office asking about my holiday plans. He had a great ear. He worked hard. He helped people all the time. He was a really good person. He made the best of some serious health challenges. He was racing from place to place, with a smile and a spring in his step. He was charging around hoisting heavy equipment at the end of a long night, after he had finished a full day job. He was the audio Energizer bunny. He loved what he did and he did it well. He taught me to hear, to listen to details. He was amazing. I can’t believe he is gone. He was one of the very best.
