Obituary for Eleanor Kathryn Lillico (Lillico)

Died peacefully in Ottawa on January 7, 2019. The daughter of Robert Millar Lillico and Ettie Gillies, she was born on July 23, 1930. She leaves her sister Marion Johnston (Tom), her nieces Nancy Martin-Ronson and Jocelyn Schnell, her nephews Stephen Johnston and Anthony Johnston and many great nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by her niece, Nora-Leigh Edmond. She was a life-long member of Bethany United Church, Ottawa. Growing up on a farm, she helped her father deliver milk to Ottawa area homes. Eleanor was a member of the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario and made great friends through this group. She represented Ontario when she visited with fellow Junior Farmers in Britain. Eleanor started her working career with Metropolitan Life Insurance in Ottawa; then went to Ottawa Teachers’ College and later completed her degree at Carleton University. Most of her teaching career was with the Ottawa Public School Board where she taught primary grades and Family Studies (Home Economics) and was a consultant with the Board for several years. She was instrumental in the formation of the Ottawa Parkinson’s Society and was a long time Member of the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario/Ottawa-Carleton branch. Eleanor was devoted to her family, and brought much joy to her nieces and nephews, and their children. There was a lot of fun with both friends and family at her cottage on Lake Bernard, Quebec. In retirement Eleanor focused on researching her family genealogy and travelling. Family and friends would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Maplewood Retirement Community and Garry J. Armstrong Care Home for their high level of care and compassion for Eleanor during the last years of her life. Cremation has taken place and, in accordance with Eleanor’s wishes, her ashes will be interred in the family plot at Ramsayville Cemetery in the spring. We will be celebrating the life of Eleanor Lillico on May 11, 2019 from 11 – 1 pm at the Top Generation Club, 4374 Generation Court, Gloucester, ON. Please join us for a luncheon and to share stories.
