Condolence: To Blair's family: I just learned today of Blair's passing. I am the accompanist for the choir at Villagia and Blair so enjoyed singing with the group. He was such a gentleman, always looking out for the ladies in the choir. Such an educated man who loved to talk about his French heritage. I have been missing him a lot and just found out why. May he rest in peace.

Condolence From: Richard Clippingdale
Condolence: Blair was my senior colleague at Carleton History from my first faculty days in the late 1960s, and we shared a warm friendship over decades. He cared deeply for students and colleagues and he and Jacqueline were superb parental models for my wife Linda and me as we were developing our own family. We well remember the wonderful couple hosting so many dinner parties and publishing celebrations that were exceptionally inspiring and joyful. Blair set an unequaled standard for thorough, objective and engaging historical analysis and writing that was a very special contribution to his country and its unity, following his wonderful war service. We know he will be deeply missed by his wonderful children and their families and by a large legion of admirers. With fondest memories from Rick and Linda Clippingdale.

Condolence: Dear Neatby Family, oh, the memories... Just a year of one MA course (Depression Canada), then supervision of my Cdn Studies research paper (half thesis)... Delightful, highly respectful scholarly style (addressing each 'scholar' Oxbridge-style ("Maddocks").
He undoubtedly found "AGL McNaughton, RB Bennett and the Unemployment Relief Camps" somewhat pedestrian, yet never showed it. Absolute class. Even invited us to their Glebe parkland-adjacent home for a seasonal beverage. So lovely (my undergrad was at Trent, so I was in heaven).
I have no special connection (merely hugely appreciative memories of respect shown, connections made and all possible opportunities given to students! May your grief be good, knowing that H. Blair Neatby was beloved by students, and will long be remembered...

Condolence: We are deeply saddened by Blair’s death. He set the standard for a generation with his scholarship and his manner and character. He and your mother welcomed us as young people and gently nurtured us as we developed our careers. He was generous with his praise and of course frank with his criticism. We are remembering happy dinner parties together, Blair’s mischievous wit, and the joy of watching from a distance as his family flourished. Condolence: My condolences to Professor Neatby's family. I was privileged to have this scholar as my Canadian History professor in 1974/5 at Carleton. Not only did he chair fabulous seminars, he challenged me to develop my analytical and writing skills. To this day I credit him with challenging me to raise my game. For me he was the gold standard.
