Obituary for Gladys Eileen Cheney (Gardiner)
Selfless, benevolent, pragmatic, uncomplaining, gracious, stubborn, courageous and unrelenting, Gladie passed away just as she lived on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at age 92 years young. Predeceased by, and now reunited with, her loving husband, Don, of 69 years. Dearly loved Mom of Allan (Nicole), Richard (Brenda), Janice (Patti) and Jennifer (Donald), adored Grandma of Aaron (Bert), Jaime (Kat) and Talia (Larry), and cherished Great Grandma of Camden. Dearest friend and Skip Bo companion of Pauline Sabourin (Order of Canada). An exemplary role model, always generously sharing of her love and affection, as well as her many moments of joy and happiness, Gladie never complained throughout her long struggle with COPD. A voracious reader, world traveler, news junkie, lover of all things family, music and dancing, Bridge, golf, ice cream (all flavours), gin and tonic, #750 Revlon lipstick, road trips, the Gatineau family cottage, and back scratches (giving and receiving), she had an infectious laugh and unforgettable twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes.
A Celebration of Gladie’s long and wonderful life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017,
3 pm, at Rideau Place on the River, 550 Wilbrod Street, Ottawa. Heartfelt thanks to all the caring staff of the Montfort Hospital (6C), especially nurse Anne Keravel, who helped us usher our Gladie into her next life, as well as to the compassionate care providers at Rideau Place. Memorial donations to the Canadian Lung Association much appreciated by the family.
