Obituary for Robert Loram Ellis

ROBERT L. ELLIS (Bob)

After a full and happy life, Bob passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2019, in his 92nd year, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Dick and Gladys Ellis, and his great-grandson, Ty Blain. He is survived by Jean, the love of his life and wife of 68 years, his devoted sister, Corinne Antol (Paul) and his special Aunt, Jo Wigmore (John). Dearly loved father of Anne (Paul), Marney (Scott), Joan and Diane (Chris). Cherished Grampa of Lindsay, David, Tamara, Tovah, Ben, Amanda, Ivy and Jake and loving Great-Grampa to Brody, Cooper, Logan, Luke, Sam, Axel, Rylee and Kenzie. Bob will be sadly missed by his lifelong best friend, Ewart and his wife Joan, of Toronto. Uncle Bob will be greatly missed by his many adoring nieces and nephews.

Bob lived an eventful life. In 1949 he had a memorable summer in the North West Territories with the Geological Survey of Canada. The magnificence of the land was always with him and had a lasting effect. Perhaps this is when he first discovered his love of travel. He and Jean travelled extensively and saw many fascinating parts of the world, from the Grand Canyon to the Arctic Circle and much more.

Bob graduated from U of T with a degree in Physics and Geology. He later achieved a P.Eng in Mining. He started his professional career with Schlumberger doing Electrical logging of oil wells in Alberta. In 1953 he joined Bell Canada, where he spent several years as Manager of the Bell Canada Pension Fund. After 33 years, he retired from Bell and started his next and favourite career as a Financial Advisor from 1987 to 2005. His integrity and strong ethics were appreciated by his many clients.

While Bob had many impressive accomplishments, he was most proud of his family and enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with them.

Many thanks to Dr. Cohn, Dr. Bustani and the caring staff in the A.C.E. Unit at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

A Memorial service will be held at St. Martins Church, 2120 Prince Charles Road, Ottawa, on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Reception following. Interment at Union Cemetery, Clarksburg, Ontario in the Spring.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Ottawa Food Bank or the Kidney Foundation.
