Obituary for Harry Thomas McGilchrist

Harry Thomas McGilchrist passed away peacefully at the age 87. Harry’s love and compassion for his family was limitless. He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Frances McGilchrist, daughter Bonnie McGilchrist, son in law François Brunet and Peter Groslouis, grand daughters, Samantha McGilchrist-Brunet/Jerome Lemieux, Jodie Boyer/William Boyer, grandsons, McKenzie McGilchrist-Groslouis, Spencer McGilchrist-Groslouis, and his precious great grand daughter, Presley Boyer. He is preceded by his daughter Kimberley McGilchrist. Harry also leaves behind his Nova Scotia family, aunt Minnie Dawson, uncle Scotty McGilchrist, Mary and Jimmy. As well, a nephew in Manitoba, Clint Cannon. Harry was a father to his extended family which includes, Bruno and Beatrice Dugas, Terri and Joey Reichenbach, Ray Dugas and Bonnie Cocca, Joann and Jim McGrath, Lina Hovey, Gerry and Hank Dugas, Claude and Kathy Dugas, Maureen and Wilfrid Dugas. Uncle Harry was also dearly loved by his many nieces and nephews. Harry was born in Nova Scotia on May 10, 1931. His career in the Airforce spanned over many decades bringing him from Ottawa to California and Cold Lake Alberta then back to Ottawa. Once retired Harry worked for Canadair. Harry went on work as a teaching assistant at Frank Ryan Catholic and Ridgemont High School. These were very special times in Harry’s life as he often spoke fondly of his students. Harry and Frances spent the winter months in Venice, Florida with family and friends. Summer months were spent at their summer home in Lancaster, Ontario. Harry was passionate about, gardening, fishing and golf. He will be surely be missed by his many close golfing friends. Harry was a storyteller! His wonderful sense of humour was sure to always entertain. He will be missed by all those who had the pleasure to meet this gentle, loving man.
Thank you to the many volunteers, doctors and nurses at the May Court Hospice for their wonderful support while caring for Harry. Special thank you to May and Samantha for their unending compassion throughout the difficult times.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate Harry’s life will be held at St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Oglivie Road (at Aviation PKWY) on Sunday, September 2nd family visitation at 12:00noon followed by the service in the Chapel at 1:00pm.
