MILLEST, Bette (née Ware)

Peacefully in Ottawa in her 98th year. Dear wife of Richard Harvey Millest (deceased). Beloved mother of Thom (Serafina Sebastyan) and John (Leslie Kirby). Bette was blessed with 3 grandchildren – Jesse (Nicole), Anna (Christopher Eby) and Caroline; 2 great grandchildren – Violet and Penelope. Cherished sister to Elmo, Joan, Bob, Jane, Dixon and Peter, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Those who knew Bette well will remember her as a kind, generous, sweet and loving gentlewoman. She loved her friends, her Muskoka cottage and especially her family. She never looked happier than when she was surrounded by her two sons and their families. Her eyes would light up whenever she saw her 3 grandchildren and the 2 great-grandchildren. She had the kind of gentle smile that shone through her eyes – not loud, not noisy, just joyful. Her life was long and good. It wasn’t always kind … in particular when her beloved husband, Dick, died unexpectedly. With still a lot of life to live, she re-invented herself and moved on to a brand new life with a new group of friends. She didn’t dwell on her hardships ... she accepted them and just got on with life. We especially thank Maryan, Chelsea, Anastasia, Lisa, Edna and Nympha who helped fill Bette's last year with companionship, love and laughter. Memorial services will be held in Ottawa and Huntsville later in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
