Obituary for Beatrice Jean Milligan (Milligan)

Beatrice Jean Milligan (Milligan)
Peacefully, on April 26, 2017 , Jean passed away at the age of 96, at Garry J. Armstrong long term care facility. She was the daughter of the late David and Maude Milligan and was predeceased by her sister Dorothy. Jean was a 1942 graduate of the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing, obtained a BN in 1950 from McGill University and a Master of Arts in Nursing Service Administration in 1962 from Teachers College Columbia University, New York. As well as being Associate Director of the School of Nursing, she established and was the Associate Director of the School for Nursing Assistants. Later she became an Assistant Executive Director of the Hospital with responsibility for Nursing Education, Nursing Service, Surgical Specialties, Food Services and the liaison between the Volunteers and the Hospital, totalling 40 years of service at the Civic Hospital. She was active on both local and provincial committees and felt fortunate to have taken part in developing the expanded roles in the Health Care Field in the 1970s, particularly in nursing.
Jean’s inner strength and genuine professionalism will be an inspiration for all those who knew her. Sincere gratitude is extended to the management and staff of the Garry J. Armstrong for their efficient and compassionate care. The family invites friends to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 1:30 p.m., followed by a Service in the Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Private interment at Pinecrest Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions to The Ottawa Hospital Foundation for Nursing Education (http://ohfoundation.ca/ways-donate) would be appreciated by the family.
