Richard McConomy

To the family of the late Honorable Marcel Prud’Homme P.C., Marcel Prud’Homme was one of the leaders of the Young Liberals of Canada and Quebec in the late fifty’s or early sixty’s. I was a teenager and the young leaders of this era were my heroes. They were the plumbers of the Quiet Revolution. As a student Liberal, I met Marcel Prud’Homme through my mother, Mrs. Anne McConomy of NDG. Every election day, we had lists and lists on the dining room table and would check off all the English voters in St-Denis. My mother had us phone all day long to get Marcel elected, over and over. At Loyola, Marcel came to a full day session as the speaker of the House at the Model Parliament. I picked Marcel up at the Montreal West train station to bring him to Loyola. So there was the speaker of the House and the Prime Minister walking along Sherbrook towards the Model Parliament. Marcel was a true leader among leaders. Many of his contemporaries did very well. But Marcel was, to me, the star. He got in early and stayed the run. And my mother loved him dearly. Au revoir Marcel, we will all join you eventually. Regards, Richard McConomy
